Ronald stepped inside the cave and got immediately Farrah, Ramsey, Ransley and Corlisse’s eyes on him. He flung his arm dismissively to initiate that he was alright. He walked straight up to Farrah, pulled her into a hug and kissed her neck gently.
“So...”, said Ramsey, and Ronald pulled away from Farrah.
“You can leave”, Ronald said. “Thank you for… you know, everything.” He looked at Ransley, and nodded stiffly. Ransley nodded back at Ronald and then Corlisse cleared her throat.
“I am leaving with Ramsey and Ransley”, she said. “It was nice to meet you both, even though the circumstances were not optimal.”
“It was nice to meet you too”, Ronald said. “Thank you for your help.”
Ramsey, Ransley and Corlisse were about to leave the cave when suddenly a bright light blinded them. They stumbled back and shielded their eyes with their hands. In the middle of the light they could see a figure, and when it came closer, they saw it was Lucas. He didn’t look at them, he stared above them into nothing in particular.
“I did it”, his voice said and it echoed around the cave. “Tell Emily that I got my forever.”
Then the light and Lucas were gone.
“He did it”, Ronald breathed out. Ransley sighed in relief, Farrah took a hold of Ronald’s hand, Corlisse wiped a tear from the corner of her eye and Ramsey actually let a smile spread on his face.
“He is in peace now”, Ramsey stated. “He deserved it.”
Ramsey’s words surprised Ronald, but he knew it was true… Lucas deserved to be in peace. Ronald squeezed Farrah’s hand for comfort.
Ramsey, Ransley and Corlisse, after saying goodbye to Ronald and Farrah, disappeared with a snap of a finger. Farrah and Ronald walked out of the cave and stared at the woods that was almost completely dark since the last rays of sunshine had went away already.
Ronald smiled at Farrah.
“It’s sad that I don’t get to see or talk with Lucas anymore”, he said. “But I’m still happy he is in peace now.”
“It’s not forever, you know. You being without Lucas”, Farrah said gently. “It might take time, but eventually you will meet again.”
Ronald nodded, and then pulled Farrah in for a hug.
