Before Ronald could react, the man busted in and stopped when he saw Lucas standing by the living room’s doorway.
“Who are you?” Lucas asked.
Ramsey narrowed his eyes, snapped his fingers making small green sparks rise from his fingers and Lucas’s eyes rolled around, then his eyes closed and he dropped on the ground completely limp.
“Lucas!” Ronald yelled and ran to his best friend in a hurry, leaving the door wide open. “What did you do to him?”
Ramsey Barlow walked to the door, closed it and then started walking towards Ronald who was kneeling next to Lucas. He got up and backed away from Ramsey who neared him every second.
“Stay away from me”, Ronald said. He didn’t understand what was happening, he refused to understand, or believe, what he was seeing and experiencing.
“I’m sick of this cat and mouse play, I get to do it enough with Ransley. Now you will listen to me, whether you want or not”, Ramsey said, his voice lowering by every word as if like he was trying to contain his temper with gritted teeth.
“Who is Ransley?” Ronald blurted out and thought that he must be losing his mind because he should be asking Ramsey to leave or something like that, not cling on some small details Ramsey had said.
“Ransley is the one who did that to you”, Ramsey said and pointed at the bite mark on Ronald’s arm.
“That animal has a name?” Ronald asked.
“You know it wasn’t just some animal”, Ramsey said.
“No, I don’t”, Ronald said stubbornly. “It was an animal, or a mutant, or–“
“Why are you in a denial, you stupid kid?” Ramsey asked coldly. “You humans are unbelievable, always denying everything even though all the proof you need is right in front of you.”
Ronald didn’t answer because he didn’t know what to say. What did Ramsey mean with ‘you humans’? Wasn’t he a human too? A short tempered human, but human nonetheless.
“When the next full moon rises, you will be turning into a werewolf and I need you to come with me before that happens so I can prevent you from killing everyone around you”, Ramsey said as like he was talking about the weather.
“Excuse me?” Ronald breathed out.
“Trust me, I’m not happy about it either”, Ramsey said. “You think I want to spend my precious time babysitting your worthless ass when I could be hunting Ransley’s psychopathic ass?”
Okay, now Ramsey was just being rude and even though Ronald refused to believe a thing the mad man was saying he would not stand by and listen him talk like that.
Ronald didn’t know where the bravery came, since he was commonly know as a pussy, but he looked at unconscious Lucas on the floor and then he looked at Ramsey and said, “Worthless? You’re calling me worthless?”
“Yes.”
“Wow. Tell your small intestines I said ‘hello’ since your head’s so far up your ass”, Ronald said and was rather proud of himself for actually having the balls to say that and that he had came up with it right away and not two weeks after the conversation. Ramsey narrowed his eyes.
“I’m being serious”, Ramsey said.
“So am I”, Ronald said.
“You don’t want my help? Fine. Have it your way, then. Don’t come crying after me when you have killed your whole family and all your friends. See if I care”, Ramsey hissed and turned around, opened the door, snapped his fingers making the green sparks appear again and walked away, slamming the door shut after him.
Lucas woke up and sat up, taking a deep breath.
“What happened?” he asked from Ronald who stared at the door in a shock.
“What do you mean?” Ronald asked quietly, trying to get himself together.
“Why am I lying on the floor? Why are you standing there? Did you open the door?”
“I did, there was no one there. Probably just a prank”, Ronald lied and felt bad about it. “What comes to you lying on the floor, I have no idea how you got there.”
Lucas frowned and stood up.
“Weird”, he muttered and rubbed his shoulder he had hit on the floor when he had fell.
“Come on, let’s continue researching”, Ronald said, trying to sound nonchalant.
Lucas left when Mrs. Quinn came back home. He hugged Mrs. Quinn quickly before he left and then Ronald was alone with his mother.
“Did you do your group project?” Mrs. Quinn asked as she started preparing dinner.
“Yes, we are almost done with it”, Ronald said.
“Already?”
“We have been very efficient”, Ronald said and shrugged. He didn’t mention the interruption Ramsey Barlow had done because his mother didn’t need to know about it. How would Ronald even tell his mother that a man had busted in her house and told her son that he was a werewolf and would turn into one during the next full moon? No way, he could never tell his mother what had happened.
Ronald retreated to his room, stripped out of his clothes and took a shower. He let the warm water run down his body and his mind wandered off.
He couldn’t believe what Ramsey had said. He refused to believe it. He was completely blind to the truth because he didn’t want to see it.
“Everything’s fine, I’m fine...”, he muttered to himself and got out of the shower. He dried himself with a towel and put on clean clothes. His mother called him because the food was ready.
Ronald ate quickly without doing any smalltalk with his mother and then he thanked her for the food and went back to his room, crawled in bed and sighed.
He fell asleep within five minutes and he saw a dream where he turned into a legit wolf with dark black fur and red eyes. It wasn’t a werewolf, it was an actual wolf and Ronald woke up in the middle of the night breathing heavily, remembering only small parts of his dream.
He couldn’t fall asleep right away. He kept thinking about Ramsey Barlow and Lucas and his dream. What had Ramsey done to Lucas? How had he done it? Who and what was Ramsey? What was Ronald’s dream about? He remembered vaguely the red eyes he had seen but he had also been kind of like… behind the red eyes, looking through them.
Ronald was all sweaty and he couldn’t help but think that it was a damn good thing he had taken a shower.
Around five in the morning Ronald fell asleep again, sleeping restless and sweating even more even though it wasn’t hot in his room, seeing even more nightmares.
“Who are you?” Lucas asked.
Ramsey narrowed his eyes, snapped his fingers making small green sparks rise from his fingers and Lucas’s eyes rolled around, then his eyes closed and he dropped on the ground completely limp.
