It wasn’t easy but Ronald tried his best to be Lucas shadow everywhere he went. It annoyed Lucas, especially when they hadn’t really talked out the fight they had had. But they still hang out, or more like Lucas tried to live his life while Ronald followed him everywhere, constantly reminding him that he should not have any contact with Ransley. It annoyed Lucas more than anything else.
When Ronald wasn’t shadowing Lucas, Farrah was. She tried to help her best, even though she had done a lot to help already; she had told Ramsey how he could make his powers stronger so that one well aimed strike would knock Ransley dead, or just unconscious, instead of just bruising him.
It was one day before the next full moon that Ronald messed up. He accidentally let the fact that Ramsey was planning to take down Ransley once and for all during the next full moon slip out of his mouth and Lucas immediately caught on it.
“What did you say?” Lucas asked, taking a hold of Ronald’s arm.
“Nothing”, Ronald said quickly, pulling his arm free.
“Bullshit”, Lucas said. “Tell me!”
Ronald sighed. Why did he have to be so weak?
“Fine, but you can’t tell...”
“Ransley?”
“You want to hear this or not?” Ronald asked, annoyed.
“Yes, yes!”
“So Farrah told Ramsey how he can strengthen his powers so that he can take Ransley down for good because Ramsey got pissed that he was still messing with you and now Ramsey is somewhere looking for his mother’s necklace because he needs to channel her spirit or some shit, I don’t fucking know and–“
“And now he’s going to kill Ransley tomorrow”, Lucas said. He was struggling with his feelings. Small part of him wanted to tell Ransley, warn him, give him time to escape but he knew he shouldn’t do that. Ronald noticed the wondering look on his best friend’s face.
“Oh no, don’t you dare even think about it!” Ronald hissed quietly so that the whole world wouldn’t hear them. “Don’t do it, Lucas.”
“You don’t understand how I feel, I lov–“
“No!” Ronald yelled. “Don’t say it! You can’t, I won’t let you. I know we had a fight and that it is still in the air but you are still my best friend and I don’t want you to get hurt! I won’t allow it!”
Lucas frowned.
“He wouldn’t hurt me”, he half-whispered under his breath.
“Oh, please”, Ronald groaned. He was so done with Lucas’s attitude.
Their arguing was just about to get even worse while they were walking out of the school but then they saw Ramsey standing by the school’s gates. They snapped their mouths shut and walked towards him.
“What’s up?” Ramsey asked, looking at their guilty faces. He knew they were hiding something.
“Sorry it slipped out of my mouth”, Ronald blurted out, too weak to hide the fact that he had messed up.
“What slipped out of your mouth?” Ramsey asked threateningly.
“You kept information from me”, Lucas said. “You didn’t tell me about the plan to take down Ransley.”
Ramsey gave a stern look at Ronald who mouthed ‘sorry’ to him and then Ramsey turned his eyes back on Lucas.
“You didn’t need to know”, he said. “You’re not trustworthy.”
“Jeez, thanks.”
“It’s the truth. In fact, I believe I should take you with me so that you don’t get the temptation to tell Ransley that I have more power now.”
Ronald’s eyes focused on the necklace hanging on Ramsey’s neck and he felt relieved that Ramsey had found it.
“His parents are out of town so no one will notice if he goes missing for a couple of days”, Ronald said and Lucas gave him a look. “What?”
“Who’s side are you on?” Lucas asked angrily.
“On that side that will keep you alive and that monster who attacked me away”, Ronald said and turned his eyes on Ramsey. “Keep him safe.”
“Ransley’s good sense of smell will probably lead him in the forest where I will go with Lucas, so I get the chance to deal with him there.”
“Whatever, just make sure he. Is. Safe”, Ronald said again. “I need my best friend alive. Also why don’t I have a good sense of smell?”
“You haven’t been a werewolf long enough to develop those kind of things”, Ramsey said, sounding bored as he always did, and took a hold of Lucas’s shoulder.
“Wait, no, seriously, you are kidnapping me?” Lucas yelped.
“I’m protecting you”, Ramsey said. “Andusing you as a bait.”
“Ronald!” Lucas yelled, hoping Ronald wouldn’t let Ramsey take him away.
“Farrah will take you to the cave when the full moon comes next day”, Ramsey said to Ronald, ignoring Lucas who tried to break free from his grasp.
“Okay.” Ronald looked at Lucas. “I’m sorry, Lucas, but it’s for your own good.”
Betrayed look spread on Lucas face and then he and Ramsey disappeared.
Ronald sighed and started walking home, wondering if he had made the right call or not.
