Okay, focus, Lucas, Lucas thought for the millionth time as he came back to living world from the timeless place. It’s a good thing that they are searching for Ramsey. Ronald won’t hurt Ransley. Farrah won’t hurt Ransley. And Ransley won’t hurt them, Ramsey would take care of everything. Besides, I’m fairly sure that Ransley has made some progress. Gosh, I’m so stressed.
He looked around and saw that he was in Poppy’s. Farrah and Ronald were sitting in a booth, talking quietly. Lucas went closer and listened their conversation curiously.
“You can’t do it alone”, Ronald stated.
“Of course I can. I’m faster without you.”
“But what if something happens and–“
“Ronald”, Farrah said, taking Ronald’s hands in her own. “I’m going to be fine.”
Ronald huffed. “The plan is stupid, though.”
“Got a better idea?”
“Well… no.”
Farrah nodded. “It is decided then.”
“What is the plan?” Lucas asked, but he didn’t get an answer since Ronald drank the last of his milkshake, then they got up and left. Lucas stayed in Poppy’s, wondering what plan they had came up with. If Ronald had anything to do with it, and knowing Ronald, the plan probably was incredibly stupid. But then again, Farrah was smarter than Ronald and might have made the plan less stupid. Lucas felt so unbelievably stressed.
“I’m so stressed”, Ronald said to the phone which was on speaker a few days later. On the other end there was Farrah. The connection was bad and Farrah voice seemed to come somewhere far away, which technically was true. “Ramsey has turned his phone off so we can’t contact him and I’m stressed because you’re wandering randomly alone around England, trying to find them.”
“It’s not ‘randomly’ per say”, Farrah protested. “I go city by city and ask if anyone has seen them. It’s organized and idiot proof.”
“There has to be a better way”, Ronald said and Lucas started jumping in front of him, pointing at himself.
“Me! Me! Me! Ask me!” Lucas yelled like a five-year-old. “Ask me! I know where they are!”
But Ronald could not hear him, which was a pity, really, since Lucas had decided that his mission was to figure out where Ramsey and Ransley’s cottage was and he had managed to do that. He just had to walk through the endless forest and find a first street and then follow it to the closest town. Sure, he had used his teleporting ability a bit but who could blame him? He was a spirit for God’s sake.
“Have you tried asking Lucas if he knows where Ramsey is? He is a spirit who is stuck in our world, so maybe he has seen something”, Farrah said and Lucas lifted his fist up in the air and yelled ‘YES!’.
Ronald, however, slapped his hand on his forehead and groaned.
“This is why you are the brains of this relationship”, Ronald said. “I’ll call you back if Lucas answers me.”
Ronald ended the call and went towards the Ouija board. Lucas was already sitting in front of it, waiting for Ronald to press his fingers on the planchette so he could tell everything to Ronald.
“Lucas?” Ronald asked as he started the game. “I need you. We want to help you, but we can’t find Ramsey. I don’t know how you feel about Ramsey and… his brother, but we need their help. Do you know where Ramsey is?”
Lucas breathed in and out. Lucas figured that since Ronald was alone, moving the planchette would be harder now. But he did all he could and managed to make the planchette move.
C-O-T-T-A-G-E.
“Cottage?” Ronald furrowed his eyebrows. “Lucas, you’re my best friend and I love you, but that was idiotic; you’re not helping. At all.”
Lucas groaned in frustration and tried moving the planchette again. It moved a little and then stopped. Ronald took his other hand off of the planchette and called Farrah, putting the call on speaker.
“Hi, it’s me”, Ronald said, putting his hand back on the planchette. “Lucas said they are in a cottage. Now he is trying to move the planchette again but it seems… difficult. I don’t think… WAIT! He is spelling something.”
Lucas was sweating and breathing heavily as he moved the planchette very, very slowly from letter to letter.
K-I-E-L-D-E-R-F-O-.
He couldn’t do it anymore. Lucas felt like he was going to pass out at any second. He felt exhausted. His every muscle was tense, he felt like he could slip away at any second, he couldn’t concentrate properly anymore.
“Kielderfo?” Ronald said. “Farrah, what the fuck is Kielderfo?”
The connection wasn’t so good, but Lucas and Ronald managed to understand Farrah’s words.
“Kielderfo?” Farrah asked and then she was quiet for a second. “I don’t know, Ron.”
Lucas groaned. “You idiots!”
He pushed with his other hand the planchette where Ronald was still pressing his fingers on it and it moved a little bit.
“Farrah”, Ronald said, furrowing his eyebrows. “I think it’s not the whole message, the planchette moved a bit but it stopped right after. I don’t think Lucas can move it anymore.”
“Kielder…fo…”, Farrah mumbled and then she shrieked. “I got it!”
“What? What is it?” Ronald asked.
Lucas was ready to go to the blurry, timeless space to rest but he had to hear what Farrah would say, just to make sure she had really got it.
“Kielder Forest!” Farrah said happily on the other end of the phone call. “It’s got to be Kielder Forest!”
“But… wait”, Ronald said and started scrolling his phone, googling like his life depended on it. “That’s 250 square miles of forest! You will never find them!”
Farrah laughed, and Lucas was slipping away, barely hearing her last words before everything went silent: “Pfft, piece of cake, honey!”
