Lucas gave one last, worried, look to his sister and then he went where Ronald was. He wasn’t surprised to find Ronald and Farrah from Ronald’s bedroom. Farrah seemed to always be with Ronald, he was never alone. Lucas didn’t know if that was a good thing or not. But it really was none of his business any way, not anymore at least.
“You promised to Emily to try contact Lucas”, Farrah said, “so what is the plan?”
“I guess we buy an Ouija board”, Ronald said and then he huffed. “Just when I thought I can do this, that I can move on, he comes back haunting my ass. That is so like Lucas. Have I made any progress during these months?”
Lucas raised his eyebrows. So that’s how Ronald felt about Lucas contacting him beyond the grave. It made Lucas kind of sad.
“You have made so much progress”, Farrah assured him. “Maybe it isn’t Lucas, maybe Emily just moved the planchette without realising. You know, subconsciously. She lost her brother, it really affects one’s mind.”
Lucas crossed his arms. They didn’t believe Emily? What kind of friends were they? Now Lucas was getting angry. Emily would never lie about something so serious. Ronald should know that, he knew Emily well.
Or at least Lucas had thought so.
“Yeah”, Ronald said quietly. “I guess we will order an Ouija board online and then try if it works. Do they even sell Ouija boards legally on the internet?”
“Yes, anyone can order it form there. That’s probably how Emily got her board in the first place.”
“Let me check…”, Ronald mumbled and started pressing buttons on his phone. “Oh, hey, here it is! Shit, it’s expensive.”
“Just buy it, Ronald.”
“Fine, fine”, Ronald sighed. “Although I have to admit, I am curious to try this game, I have never played.”
Lucas huffed. The Ronald he had known wouldn’t have dared to play with an Ouija board, he had been way too pussy for that.
“I have”, Farrah said and shrugged. “Didn’t work.”
“Now that’s a good thing to hear”, Ronald said dryly. “Let’s just hope Emily was right and Lucas really needs our help, otherwise this has been for nothing.”
For nothing? Lucas crossed his arms and furrowed his eyebrows.
Ronald had changed, Lucas realised that now. He wasn’t the same boy that he was when Lucas had been still alive. The old Ronald would have never reacted that way on the fact that his dead best friend might be stuck somewhere as a spirit and needed help. This, everything, was too much for Lucas. He couldn’t do it at the moment, so he decided to go to that one place where he knew he could relive his memories and let the time pass. He closed his eyes and ears and let himself forget where he was. He didn’t want to see or hear. He just wanted to relive his memories and this time his mind went back to the time before the school started. To the time before their camping trip. Before the attack and all the drama. To the time when he got his first kiss. His first real kiss.
